biography
Aikman was born Troy Kenneth Aikman after Charlyn and Kenneth Aikman on November 21, 1966 in West Covina, California, United States. He spent the first twelve years of his life in California before moving to Oklahoma. His family settled in the town of Henryetta, where Troy attended high school. It was during this time that his athletic prowess shone brightest as he received All-State honors and won the 1983 Oklahoma High School State Championship.
Troy Aikman then attended the University of Oklahoma playing under head coach Barry Switzer. His decision to go to college paid off immediately when he became the first freshman to start as quarterback for the team. However, in his sophomore season, Aikman lost his starting position after injuring his ankle. This prompted him to transfer to UCLA where, despite missing a year due to college transfer rules, he cemented his name in the school’s athletic history, winning, among other awards, the 1988 Davey O’Brien Award that prompted him to do so Jersey #8 is scheduled to retire in 2014.
Out of college, Troy Aikman went straight to the league through the 1989 NFL draft, where he was selected with the Dallas Cowboys’ first overall pick, and the rest was history.
Troy Aikman Net Worth (Income and Earnings)
The legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback is said to have a net worth of around $25 million. It’s no surprise that Troy Aikman is worth enough to become the league’s highest-paid player after just five years of his professional career as an American soccer player.
In 1993, Aikman signed an 8-year, $50 million contract that came with an $11 million signing bonus. When he hung his cleats, his salary was estimated at $7.5 million a year. In his post-football career, he became a sports reporter for Fox Network, where he reportedly makes $1 million annually.
He’s also made some smart investments; being a co-owner of a NASCAR Sprint Cup racing team and a co-owner of the San Diego Padres baseball franchise. Add that to his endorsement deals with companies like Walt Disney World and Rent-a-Center, and you’ll see why he’s still worth so much.
Family – wife, girlfriend
Troy Aikman was first married to Rhonda Worthey, a publicist he met while playing for the Cowboys when she worked for his team. Not much was known about Worthey before she began her relationship with what was then the most suitable bachelor in Texas. Other than that, she was a single mother born on May 2, 1970 and has a degree in Public Relations.
The couple began dating sometime in 1998 and after 18 months after meeting, they wed on April 8, 2000 at a ceremony in Plano, Texas. A year after their marriage, Aikman and Worthey were blessed with their first child, a daughter named Jordan Ashley Aikman who was born on August 24, 2001. In 2002, they welcomed another daughter, Alexa Marie Aikman, who was born on July 30, 2002. The couple were married for eleven years before calling it quits and announcing their separation on January 25, 2011.
After Aikman severed ties with his ex-wife, he dated several high-profile ladies, most notably Catherine “Capa” Mooty, fashion retailer and ex-wife of attorney Jerry Mooty. The couple started seeing each other exclusively in February 2016 and after a few months, while on vacation on Lake Como, Aikman reportedly proposed to her. They tied the knot in front of close family and friends on September 2, 2017 at the Biltmore Four Seasons Hotel in Montecito, California.
Is he gay?
Troy Aikman’s true sexual orientation has been a point of contention between sports fans for a number of years, ever since rumors that the quarterback was gay began circulating during his playing days in the ’90s. The story continued to receive national coverage after being discussed by sportswriter Skip Bayless in his book Bent in Hell . Bayless reported that the story was fabricated by Cowboys coach Barry Switzer’s advisors due to the feud between player and coach at the time.
However, since Aikman’s marriage, the gay rumors have been proven false and have been repeatedly linked to women with no concrete history of a relationship with another man.
