Mick Jagger took to Facebook Tuesday to break his silence regarding the suicide of his girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott. Scott was found hanged from a doorknob in her Manhattan apartment the morning of Monday, March 17. The larger-than-life lead singer, who is currently on tour with The Rolling Stones in Australia, had been dating the model/stylist turned designer since 2001.

“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” Jagger, 70, wrote alongside a beautiful black-and-white photo of former model Scott. “We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.”

“She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me,” Jagger continued. “I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her.”

Shortly after news broke of the shocking tragedy, Jagger canceled a Rolling Stones concert in Perth, Australia, and made plans to fly back to New York. The singing legend is “terribly devastated” and “inconsolable,” according to Us Magazine.

Jagger’s spokeswomen, Victoria Scarfone, also denied that Jagger and Scott had broken up, as written in a story in the New York Post. “There is absolutely no basis in fact to this story. It is a horrible and inaccurate piece of gossip during this very tragic time for Mick,” said Scarfone.

The rock legend ended his poignant Facebook message with, “I will never forget her.”

Other celebrities have made statements eulogizing the late fashion icon. Vogue editor Anna Wintour described Scott as “a total perfectionist… always unbelievably generous, gracious, kind and so much fun.” Wintour added, “Her old world American manners and charm were from another time, but her sensibility was always fiercely modern.”

Supermodel Naomi Campbell said that  Scott was “the epitome of elegance and femininity.”

Madonna wrote in a statement, “This is a horrible and tragic loss. I’m so upset. I loved L’Wren’s work and she was always so generous with me.”

Actress Nicole Kidman, a personal friend and proponent of Scott’s fashions is “heartbroken and in shock right now and unable to say anything,” according to a spokeswoman.
