The evolution of girl group Little Mix is astounding for many reasons. From winning the X-Factor four years ago (almost five) for blowing away the world with beautiful vocal moments to having number one hits and selling well over 12 million records so far. Success doesn’t stop for this girl group, so don’t think these girls are breaking up anytime soon. They’re in it for the long run so we’ll be seeing more Little Mix moments in the near future.
‘Famous for being famous’ is a term unfortunately associated with these girls by a few people, but that is totally out of the question. First off, let’s look at the actual definition. According to the fabulous world wide web:
“Famous for being famous is a pejorative term for someone who attains celebrity status for no particular identifiable reason (as opposed to fame based on achievements, skill or talent) and appears to generate their own fame, or someone who achieves fame through a family or relationship association with an existing celebrity”.
On the contrary, the perfect term to describe Little Mix is simply put: Famous for being one of this “generations leading vocal talents”. And that alone is the upmost truth.
Interesting indeed because this definition and/or term of ‘famous for being famous’ has no association with this girl group. Remember, they won a TALENT competition due to their vocals. The U.K. public saw these young girls grow into profound artists and everyone saw their potential as a group from the start. Followed by three (so far) successful platinum albums and multi-platinum selling singles, what else is there to say about this girl group? Nothing but positive things.
Again, Little Mix may not have the entire world (most notably America) wrapped around their finger, but longevity is a precious word many seem to forget about. Sure a number one debut is great and all, but it’s about keeping that constant longevity that will keep people watching. And it’s obvious, fans and haters alike are keeping huge tabs on this girl group.
Yes we all have opinions, but negatively critiquing a girl group saying they haven’t had any proper hits is a big redundant and unnecessary. Instead, let’s celebrate that girl groups like Little Mix and Fifth Harmony are both co-exisiting in the music industry. An industry that’s still filled today with constant sexism, double standards, a ‘girl versus girl’ belief and cynical critics.
But apart from all this – who ends up winning in the end? Little Mix of course.
