It's something of a common misconception that in order to have the size and definition of someone like Cena that you have to be using performance enhancing drugs. It's possible to be built like Cena naturally, but it takes dedication that's pretty fanatical.

Firstly, you have to have the genetics, otherwise all the steroids in the world won't get you the look you want. Next, you have to know a lot about nutrition such as what's in the food, how much of what's in the food is enough or too much, how to prepare it to get the proper amount of nutritional value out of it, the proper proportions of the food, etc. Also, depending on what your fitness goals are, you have to maintain a rigorous eating schedule. It's not at all uncommon for pro bodybuilders to eat something along the lines of half a dozen skinless chicken breasts, 30 egg whites and drinking a half gallon or more of water. After they eat, they go work out for maybe 3 or 4 hours, have a protein shake or two during that time period, eat another 6 to 10 chicken breasts along with 30 or so egg whites, drinking water almost constantly, then work out for another 3 hours or so with more protein shakes, then have another big meal of chicken & egg whites. Then, the next day, they do the whole damn thing all over again. Some pro bodybuilders will eat half a dozen big meals a day or more. Basically, all they do is eat, work out, sleep and shit.

Cena's routine can't be as rigorous as that, not when you look at the fact that he's on the road so much. Part of what Pro bodybuilders work on is not only gaining size & definition, but symmetry. As a pro bodybuilder, Cena wouldn't make it because he doesn't have the overall freakish development. He doesn't have the super wide lats, the thick trapezius muscles that make it look as though you hardly even have a neck, etc. Also, Cena's muscles have a more natural angular look to them rather than the very rounded contours you often, but not always, see with long term 'roid users. That However, I'm sure that Cena works out like a fiend and he probably has a pretty strict diet. He'd have to in order to maintain his physique. Plus, if you've got the sort of money that Cena does, it's very easy to consult professional nutritionists that will not only tell you what to eat & how much, but they'll prepare the food for you in all the proper proportions, instructions on how to cook it down to the smallest detail. That's not to say he won't have a beer or two with a couple slices of pizza sometimes, but it's almost certainly not something that he indulges in very often at all.

I think there's a possibility that Cena may have used steroids in the past before the WWE Wellness Policy. Maybe he still does on occasion. It's at least possible that WWE officials cover for him, I don't know if they do or if they have, but there's always a chance that they have. However, it's also possible that he doesn't or hasn't because as big of a star as he's become in the business, you'd have thought that someone would've come forward by now if there was any dirt to be found regarding Cena using performance enhancing drugs. You know, someone from Cena's past, guys who've gotten stuff for him, guys who've sold stuff to him, guys he came up through the business with who're bitter that he made it while they didn't, etc.
