A former Minister of Justice and Solicitor-General of Alberta, Kaycee Madu, conveyed the heart-wrenching news of the passing of Ayokunle Odekunle, affectionately known as Oddy. The esteemed legal practitioner, based in Alberta, Canada, succumbed to stage 4 gastric cancer on Friday, concluding a valiant fight against the ailment since its diagnosis in 2020.
Expressing profound sorrow in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Madu shared, “It is with profound sadness that I bring to you that our dear brother, friend, and colleague Ayokunle Odekunle @oddy4real lost his courageous battle with stage 4 cancer this evening.”
Despite grappling with a terminal illness, Odekunle, associated with Queck and Associates Law Office in Alberta, Canada, tenaciously pursued his legal ambitions. His determination bore fruit in June when he secured a place at the Alberta Bar, a testament to his dedication amid adversity.
Madu reflected on Odekunle‘s aspirations, noting, “Ayo was so looking forward to enjoying the practice of law and prayed for a second chance to devote his healthy self to his beloved wife, Halimah. He loved his wife and two beautiful young children.”
Odekunle, a 2011 Law graduate from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, and called to the Nigerian Bar in 2012, left an indelible mark as a litigator. His noteworthy contributions showcased his legal acumen, especially in high-profile cases involving multinational corporations.
Specializing in Family Law, Immigration, Wills and Estate, and general litigation, Odekunle‘s multifaceted practice demonstrated his commitment to justice, merit, and good governance. His legacy, characterized by pursuing humanity’s best interests, leaves a void in the legal community. Odekunle is survived by his wife and two children, and the impact of his loss is felt in Alberta and across the global legal fraternity.
